Sam’s Club is preparing to open a new location in Waxahachie, Texas, marking its first store launch in the area since the Grapevine store reopened in 2024. The announcement came from Walmart spokesperson Katelynn Gorton, who conveyed the company’s commitment to expanding within the state, which currently hosts more Sam’s Club outlets than any other.
While a specific opening date has not yet been set, filings submitted last year to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and the city of Waxahachie indicate the new Sam’s Club will occupy approximately 160,000 square feet near the intersection of Highway 77 and Grove Creek Road.
The move comes amid increasing competition in the North Texas warehouse retail sector. BJ’s Wholesale Club, a chain based in Massachusetts, has recently entered the market with four locations, including one in Waxahachie, and has announced plans for another store in Mesquite later this year. Meanwhile, Costco is expanding its presence around Dallas with new stores slated to open in Celina and Mansfield this August, adding to recent store openings in Allen and Prosper.
Sam’s Club has outlined ambitious growth goals as part of a broader transformation initiative launched in April 2025. The company aims to double its membership base and more than double sales and profit over the next eight to ten years by opening new stores annually.
The upcoming Waxahachie store exemplifies Sam’s Club efforts to capture a larger share of the North Texas market, where demand for warehouse-style retail options continues to rise amidst intensifying competition.
