More than two decades after the original film, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have reunited for the sequel to the 1998 cult classic "Practical Magic," which is scheduled for release on September 11. Although the story is set in a fictional coastal town in Massachusetts, filming took place in several locations in Essex, England.

Among the notable sites used for production were the Epping Ongar Railway and St Mary and All Saints Church in Abridge, near Lambourne. Scenes were filmed aboard one of the railway’s British Rail Mark 1 coaches, dating back to the 1960s. This vintage coach was temporarily moved to Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, for part of the shoot before being returned to the railway line in Essex.

The Epping Ongar Railway continues to operate regular service every weekend, offering visitors the chance to experience rides in the same coaches featured in the film. Ticket prices start at £19.50 for adults with the All Day Rover pass, and £3 for children aged three to 15.

St Mary and All Saints Church, a Grade I-listed building recognized for its historical significance, also featured prominently in the production. Its ancient trees, historic churchyard, and tranquil setting were used to represent a traditional American parish church, contributing to the film’s atmospheric backdrop.

The decision to shoot key scenes in these English locations provided an authentic and picturesque setting while replicating the aesthetic of New England for the film.
