The cricket pitch at King Charles’s Sandringham Estate is set to receive a £9,000 upgrade to install an all-weather artificial surface, following interest shown by his granddaughter, Princess Charlotte. The improvement aims to enhance the playing conditions for members of the Sandringham and Dersingham Cricket Club, which uses the Norfolk grounds.
A planning application has been submitted to the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk by representatives of the cricket club, which boasts both junior and senior teams. The proposal highlights that the new artificial pitch will provide a durable playing surface regardless of weather conditions, allowing for extended playing and training hours throughout the year. This upgrade is also expected to help preserve the existing natural turf square, particularly during periods of wet weather or heavy use.
Princess Charlotte, daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales, has demonstrated a notable enthusiasm for cricket. To mark her 11th birthday in May, a family video was released showing her playing on a sandy beach in Cornwall, where she displayed impressive bowling skills. Former England captain Mike Atherton commented on her technique, praising her “decent run-up,” “straight arm,” and “energetic follow through,” while noting her focused gaze and evident enjoyment of the sport.
