The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is offering fans a chance to win one of five commemorative Knicks-themed trash cans in a raffle celebrating the team’s recent NBA Finals victory. The initiative comes shortly after a high-profile incident during the championship parade involving a JPMorgan executive who was caught on video removing one of the full-sized, blue-and-orange trash bins from the parade route.

Under the campaign slogan “No Need to Knick a Bin,” the DSNY aims to discourage the removal of public property amid celebrations. The department’s advertisement emphasizes that unlike the unauthorized removal by the parade attendee, winners of the raffle will receive brand-new litter baskets without having to take them from the streets.

DSNY Commissioner Gregory Anderson commented on the matter, underscoring the importance of respecting public property. “Fouling up our sidewalks and stealing public property should always be out of bounds in New York City,” Anderson said. He added that the department is pleased to distribute five official litter baskets to Knicks fans, identical to the sturdy containers used daily throughout the city’s streets.

The Knicks-themed bins are designed in the team’s signature blue and orange colors and serve both a practical and commemorative purpose. The department encourages fans to enter the contest online to continue celebrating the championship in a way that respects the city’s cleanliness and infrastructure.

Commissioner Anderson also made a lighthearted reference to “leaving the basket-tipping to New York’s Strongest,” alluding to sanitation workers who regularly manage the city’s refuse collection. The raffle is part of the department’s broader efforts to promote responsible conduct during public events and city-wide celebrations.
