Sarina Wiegman has called on her England team to display greater clinical precision ahead of the second leg of their World Cup qualifying play-off against Greece. The Lionesses hold a 3-1 advantage following their first-leg victory in Crete, where Georgia Stanway, Maya Le Tissier, and Alessia Russo all found the net.
Despite the comfortable lead, Wiegman expressed some dissatisfaction with the overall performance against Greece, noting that while the team was clear on their game plan, there were multiple moments where execution fell short. "We scored three good goals and had opportunities to score more," she said, signaling the need for improved efficiency in finishing chances during the upcoming fixture.
The second leg is scheduled to take place tonight in Leicester, where England will look to secure their passage to the final round of qualifying. Should they advance, their likely opponents will be Ukraine, who recently defeated Slovakia 3-1 in their own play-off match.
Meanwhile, midfielder Keira Walsh has voiced support for extending Wiegman’s contract, which is currently set to expire after the World Cup next year. Walsh emphasized the widespread appreciation for Wiegman’s leadership, stating, "Everyone in England would love her to stay."
