The Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development has appointed HE Dr. Saud bin Abdullah al-Attiyah as chairman of its board of trustees. The announcement was made in mid-June 2026, marking a significant leadership change at the foundation, which is dedicated to advancing dialogue on global energy and sustainability issues.
Dr. Saud bin Abdullah al-Attiyah brings over two decades of experience in economic policy, fiscal strategy, and public-private partnerships. He currently serves as Deputy Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at Qatar’s Ministry of Finance, where he is responsible for overseeing economic policy, investment strategies, and initiatives involving public-private partnerships.
Throughout his career, al-Attiyah has held several prominent roles within the Qatari government. His previous positions include director of Economic Policy and Research at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, director of the Legacy Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and head of Economic and Financial Crime at the Ministry of Interior. In addition to his government roles, he serves on the boards of several key national institutions and has represented Qatar in strategic engagements with international financial organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank.
As chairman, al-Attiyah is expected to guide the foundation in continuing its mission as an independent voice on matters of energy and sustainable development on the global stage. He will build upon the work and vision of the late HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, the founder of the organization.
The foundation plays a pivotal role in fostering research, analysis, and policy discussions related to energy transition and sustainability, sectors that remain crucial to Qatar’s economic diversification and environmental goals. Under al-Attiyah’s leadership, the organization aims to strengthen its influence and maintain its position as a leading institution in these fields.
