Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, criticized the role of the Houthi militia in the ongoing conflict, accusing them of using Yemen as a pawn for the interests of foreign parties. Speaking on Saturday via a series of posts on the social media platform X, Al-Jaber condemned the militia for exacerbating Yemen’s instability and suffering.

Al-Jaber asserted that the Houthis have undermined the country’s security and stability by prioritizing external agendas over the welfare of the Yemeni people. He emphasized that lasting peace in Yemen requires more than rhetoric or political delays, calling instead for genuine commitment focused on the nation’s interests.

The ambassador’s remarks come amid renewed international efforts to resolve the protracted conflict, which has devastated Yemen since 2014. The war involves the Houthi movement, which controls significant portions of northern Yemen, and a Saudi-led coalition backing the internationally recognized government.

Al-Jaber’s comments reflect Saudi Arabia’s continued stance that the Houthis bear responsibility for obstructing peace talks and prolonging the humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, the Houthi leadership maintains that their actions are defensive and rejects accusations of manipulating the conflict for external influence.

International mediators have repeatedly urged all parties in Yemen to engage in sincere negotiations to end the conflict and alleviate the dire humanitarian conditions. However, progress has been slow, with frequent ceasefire violations and political impasses hampering peace processes.

The conflict has resulted in widespread displacement, food insecurity, and infrastructure collapse across Yemen. Saudi Arabia, as a key regional actor and participant in the coalition intervening since 2015, has been at the forefront of diplomatic and military efforts related to the crisis.
