Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are set to face off in the final of the 27th Gulf Cup on Tuesday, October 6, at 10:00 pm Oman time. The match will take place at Alinma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah, with a full capacity crowd of 60,000 spectators expected. Both teams expressed confidence and ambition ahead of the decisive encounter during a joint press conference held at the Hilton Jeddah media centre on Monday.
Saudi Arabia’s head coach, Georgios Donis, emphasized the importance of team cohesion and tactical discipline. He noted the challenge posed by a well-organized UAE side led by coach Zlatko Dalic. “We will face a very organised team, with good players and a coach who is very clear tactically,” Donis said, highlighting the significance of defensive structure, high pressing, and attacking movements refined during their preparations.
Donis also acknowledged the physical demands faced by his squad, having played five matches in 14 days, including a tense semifinal win over Qatar that extended beyond regular time. The Greek coach indicated that player fitness assessments would inform the final lineup decision. He underscored that the team’s spirit and collective effort would be crucial, asserting, “All the players are ready to fight for every ball and cover the spaces.”
On the other side, UAE coach Zlatko Dalic expressed optimism about his team’s chances and the importance of enjoying the occasion. “Tuesday’s match will be the easiest game because it is the final,” said the Croatian tactician. He praised the support from his nation’s fans and highlighted the 24 hours his team used for focused preparation. Dalic recognized Saudi Arabia’s strength and called for the highest level of concentration and defensive discipline to counter their opponents effectively.
Dalic also shared his personal ambition to clinch the tournament as he embarks on his tenure with the UAE national team, stating, “This is a big challenge for me, and I want to start my journey by winning the championship.”
The Gulf Cup final holds not only regional prestige but also substantial financial incentives. The tournament’s total prize money stands at $1.5 million, with the champions slated to receive $1 million and the runners-up $500,000. Additionally, the Best Player award includes an apartment provided by Al Diyar Al Arabiya Real Estate Development Company, a strategic partner in Saudi Arabia.
Tickets for the final were sold out shortly after release, reflecting considerable public interest in the showdown between the two Gulf football powerhouses. Both teams now prepare to battle for regional supremacy in what promises to be a tightly contested and eagerly anticipated event.
