A recent roundtable in Jeddah has emphasized the expanding scientific collaboration between Saudi Arabia and France, focusing on environmental challenges and academic cooperation. The event, organized by the French Consulate General in Jeddah as part of France Alumni May, convened researchers, academics, and students from both countries to discuss avenues for joint innovation and research mobility.
The discussion, titled “Science in the Service of the Environment: Franco-Saudi Crossed Perspectives,” centered on how interdisciplinary scientific efforts can address pressing environmental issues while strengthening bilateral ties in higher education and research. France’s Consul General Mohammed Nehad highlighted that the initiative aims to deepen scientific dialogue and spotlight the role of French higher education institutions in supporting academic excellence.
“France is not only a cultural and tourist destination, but also a major actor in science and innovation,” he remarked, underscoring the country’s commitment to fostering research collaboration. Nehad also pointed out the importance of creating clearer pathways for students and researchers interested in academic exchange. Many potential participants face challenges in identifying available programs, institutional contacts, and funding opportunities, he said, noting that the roundtable sought to provide practical guidance to facilitate these connections.
The event reflected a broader effort by both nations to develop sustainable solutions through research, with an emphasis on environmental innovation. By encouraging interdisciplinary studies and exchange programs, organizers believe the collaboration will contribute to the long-term development goals of Saudi Arabia and France alike.
The roundtable served as a platform not only for sharing knowledge but also for establishing networks that could lead to joint projects and increased mobility among scholars. It aligns with ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing international partnerships in science to tackle global challenges, particularly in environmental preservation and sustainability.
