As autumn settles across the Northern Hemisphere, a variety of newly opened and renovated hotels are offering travelers opportunities to experience the season’s natural beauty and cultural events. From the mountainous landscapes of Colorado to the bustling streets of London and New York City, hospitality properties are tailoring their offerings to highlight fall’s unique appeal.
In Fort Garland, Colorado, the recently launched Trinchera Reserve & Lodge opened in June on a historic 170,000-acre ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Owned by Louis Bacon, founder of Moore Capital Management, the 16-room lodge immerses visitors in wilderness activities such as guided hikes, mountain biking, fishing, and stargazing. With interiors designed by Los Griegos Studio featuring Southwestern textiles and Western art, the lodge includes communal spaces like a three-sided stone fireplace, a games area, and a bar. Guests may dine indoors overlooking mountain views or outdoors, while wellness amenities include a fitness center, sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub. For greater privacy, two Reserve Residences are available. All-inclusive packages, which include transportation from San Luis Valley Regional Airport, start at $2,500 per night for double occupancy.
London’s Zetter Bloomsbury, housed in six Georgian townhouses near Bloomsbury Square, offers a boutique hotel experience for travelers attending the city’s fall cultural calendar. Steps from the British Museum, where the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition is currently attracting large audiences, the hotel provides a home-like atmosphere infused with antiques, African textiles, and 20th-century artworks curated by designer James Thurstan Waterworth. The 68 rooms range from compact accommodations to spacious suites, some featuring outdoor terraces and claw-foot tubs. Guests can enjoy coffee or cocktails in the Parlour or afternoon tea in the Orangery overlooking a garden designed by former BBC presenters Harry and David Rich. Room rates begin around £400 ($530) per night.
In Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, the Omni Mount Washington Resort & Spa reopened following extensive renovations to its 200 historic rooms and common areas. Located at the base of Mount Washington, the Spanish Renaissance Revival–style resort offers fall activities such as riding the Bretton Woods Skyway Gondola to take in foliage views and playing golf on two courses. Surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, the resort also serves as a base for hiking, fly fishing, and horseback riding. A new café, Labrador Tea & Coffee, has been introduced alongside refurbishments to the spa and dining venues like Stickney’s Restaurant and a speakeasy-style bar called the Cave. Room rates during peak foliage season start around $550, dropping to $300 in November.
In Italy, Villa San Michele, a Belmond property just outside Florence in Fiesole, reopened after an 18-month renovation of the former 15th-century convent. The hotel retains Renaissance architectural elements such as frescoes, a cloister, and loggias. Featuring 39 rooms and suites with terra-cotta floors, tapestries, and restored portraits, many accommodations include terraces or balconies with views of Florence and surrounding gardens. The property, designed by Luigi Fragola Architects, offers guests access to walking trails in the nearby Parco Monumentale di Monte Ceceri and free shuttle service to Florence. Dining options include Antesí restaurant with its Renaissance loggia and tasting menus, San Michele Grill by the heated pool, and Ristorante San Michele. The hotel has added a spa and launched a fall aperitivo series featuring local food, wine, and artisan experiences. Rates begin at approximately £1,700 ($1,900) excluding taxes, with operations continuing through January 3.
In New York City, the Kimpton Ashbel New York-Park Avenue opened in a landmark Beaux-Arts building dating to 1928. The 205-room hotel is located near Grand Central Terminal and cultural sites such as the Morgan Library & Museum and Bryant Park. It caters especially to guests traveling with pets, accepting animals of any size at no extra charge. Guest rooms feature contemporary design with soft color schemes, and select accommodations include balconies and views of Park Avenue and the Empire State Building. Complimentary morning coffee and afternoon wine service are available in the lobby, while the Park & Bell Cafe offers breakfast items and small plates. Room rates start at $350 per night, with packages such as “Sit, Stay, Sleepover” tailored for guests with dogs.
Collectively, these properties reflect a growing trend among hotels to blend seasonal natural experiences with cultural programming and enhanced guest amenities, aiming to attract travelers seeking both relaxation and engagement during the autumn months.
