Dominick Critelli, a 105-year-old World War II Army veteran and saxophonist, once again captivated a crowd with his rendition of the national anthem during the New York Islanders’ home opener at UBS Arena in Elmont on Saturday. Critelli, who gained widespread attention for his performance last December, was greeted with enthusiasm from fans of both the Islanders and their opponents, the New Jersey Devils.
Born and raised on Long Island, Critelli expressed deep gratitude for his life in the United States, saying he values what the country has provided him throughout his century-long life. “What this country has done for me, no other country in the world could do — and I mean that,” he said, emphasizing his enduring patriotism.
His saxophone performance at the game served as both a musical highlight and a moment of unity among hockey fans. In tribute to his milestone age and service, team alumnus and honored guest Butch Goring presented Critelli with a custom Islanders jersey bearing the number 105.
Critelli’s return to the ice-side spotlight continues a remarkable story of a nonagenarian veteran who has become a beloved figure in the Long Island community, inspiring audiences with his talent, longevity, and heartfelt dedication to his country.
