The fifth edition of the School Beach Games Championship advanced to its semifinal stage on Wednesday at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Sports Complex in Salalah. The event, organized by the Oman School Sports Association (OSSA), features school teams from across Oman competing in beach volleyball and beach handball.
Following the conclusion of the group stages, the competition entered its knockout phase, with the beach volleyball semifinals set to see Al Batinah North Education Directorate face Al Dakhiliyah Education Directorate. In the other volleyball semifinal, Muscat Education Directorate will square off against Al Batinah South Education Directorate.
Meanwhile, the beach handball semifinals will feature Al Dakhiliyah Education Directorate against Dhofar Education Directorate, while Muscat Education Directorate is matched against Al Batinah South Education Directorate. Victors in both sports will move on to the championship final, and the defeated teams will compete for third place.
In recent group-stage play, the beach handball contests yielded several clear outcomes: Muscat secured a 2-0 win over Musandam; Dhofar defeated Al Batinah North by the same score; Al Batinah South prevailed 2-0 against Al Sharqiyah South; and Al Dakhiliyah closed its group-phase matches with a 2-0 victory over Al Dhahirah.
The beach volleyball group stage featured eight final-round matches. Al Batinah North defeated Al Dhahirah 2-0, while Al Batinah South recorded a 2-0 win over Dhofar. A closely contested match saw Al Dakhiliyah narrowly beat Al Batinah South 2-1. Muscat earned a 2-0 victory over Al Sharqiyah North and subsequently over Al Dakhiliyah, while Dhofar and Al Sharqiyah South each posted 2-0 wins against Al Dhahirah and Al Wusta, respectively. Al Batinah North also secured a 2-0 win against Al Buraimi.
In addition to the competitions, OSSA partnered with the Oman Olympic Committee to host the Young Athletes Forum, attended by participating students and their supervisors. The forum covered topics to support and enhance the development of young athletes, including an introduction to the Athletes’ Commission, understanding athlete rights and responsibilities, and safeguarding measures for youth participants.
Further sessions addressed mental and physical training, the pathway from early athletic development to elite competition and Olympian status, as well as an interactive dialogue with young athletes. The forum was led by speakers Asaad al Hasani, Mohammed al Habsi, Nasser al Riyami, and Khalifa al Jabri.
