Scotland manager Steve Clarke has expressed his condolences following the death of a devoted Scotland supporter in Boston. Donny Strathie, aged 76, from Grangemouth, passed away on Sunday while attending the World Cup in the United States. Strathie had travelled to support the national team and had obtained a ticket to watch Scotland’s match against Morocco.
Speaking ahead of Scotland’s upcoming fixture, Clarke acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the occasion. He described Strathie’s death as a sad event amid the positive developments surrounding Scotland’s World Cup campaign. Clarke highlighted the significance of Strathie fulfilling his long-held ambition to witness Scotland play at the tournament once again.
“I offer my thoughts and condolences to his family, including his daughters and grandchildren,” Clarke said during a pre-match press conference.
Strathie’s relatives have expressed their hope that a minute’s applause will be observed during the 76th minute of the game in his memory. This gesture aims to honour his passion for the national team and his dedication as a supporter.
The incident has resonated with both the Scotland squad and its fan base, underscoring the deep connection between the team and its supporters, particularly during major international events.
