Sébastien Pocognoli began his tenure as Scotland’s national football team manager with a goalless draw against Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League. The Belgian coach took charge for the first time since replacing Steve Clarke in August.

Pocognoli named two players in the starting lineup making their international debuts: Swansea City defender Stephen Welsh and Sevilla forward Robbie Ure. Alongside them, Oli McBurnie, a striker recently recalled after being excluded from Scotland’s World Cup squad under Clarke, featured prominently. McBurnie had Scotland’s best opportunity to score late in the match but was denied by a crucial save from Slovenia captain and goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who successfully prevented the striker from finishing a one-on-one chance.

The match, played in Slovenia, ended without a goal as both sides struggled to break through defensively. Scotland will next face Switzerland in a Nations League fixture scheduled at Hampden Park on Tuesday. The result leaves Scotland with a starting point under their new manager as they look to improve performances and results moving forward in the competition.
