Scotland’s World Cup match against Morocco on Friday attracted a television audience of approximately six million viewers across the United Kingdom, despite the late 11 p.m. kickoff. The Group C fixture, held at Boston Stadium in Massachusetts, ended in a 1-0 defeat for Scotland.
Among the supporters present at the stadium was Sir Rod Stewart, who traveled to the United States to cheer on the national team in person. The extensive TV viewership was spread across multiple platforms, including ITV, STV, ITVX, and the STV Player. STV reported a peak audience of 1.2 million viewers in Scotland alone, marking the channel’s most-watched broadcast since the Euro 2024 match against Germany. Richard Williams, a representative from STV, highlighted the significance of these numbers, noting that the tournament’s shared viewing experiences continue to unite audiences.
The match’s outcome was decided early, with Morocco’s PSV Eindhoven striker Ismael Saibari scoring the fastest goal of the tournament to date, just 70 seconds after kickoff. Scotland had entered the match on the back of a 1-0 victory over Haiti the previous Sunday, a game also viewed by Sir Rod Stewart.
Looking ahead, Scotland is set to face Brazil on Wednesday, while England will meet Ghana on Tuesday following their 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match. Scottish fans continue to rally behind their team as the group stage progresses.
