Burnley head coach Scott Parker has acknowledged the significant challenge his team faces as they fight to avoid relegation with just six games remaining in the Premier League season. The club, which finished as runners-up in the Championship last season, currently sits 12 points adrift of safety. They travel to face fellow struggling side Nottingham Forest in a fixture that could leave Burnley close to confirming their drop back to the second tier.

Parker emphasized the need for realism in assessing Burnley’s precarious position. “There’s a realism, for sure. We understand the situation we’re in and the challenge that we face, and it’s an absolutely massive one,” he said. The head coach described himself as a realist, noting that the limited number of matches left are essentially must-wins. “The last four or five games have been a must-win and we’ve not managed to be able to do that, and those games are running out for us,” Parker added. Despite the difficulties, he stressed the importance of continuing to learn from each game as the club fights to improve its results.

When questioned about his own future at Burnley amid the club’s struggles, Parker stated that he remains focused on the current task rather than his job security. “I’m pretty relaxed at this present moment in time. My main focus is trying to get the best out of this group,” he said. He acknowledged that discussions about his position will occur in due course but suggested they are not an immediate concern. “My situation is my situation and it’s not something that I remotely really think about. Those conversations will take place when they need to and no doubt they will be taking place,” Parker commented.

Burnley’s battle to stay in the Premier League comes as they face the prospect of an immediate return to the Championship following their promotion last season. With the gap to safety substantial and the fixture list dwindling, the team faces mounting pressure to secure crucial points in the closing stages of the campaign. The upcoming match against Nottingham Forest is therefore seen as pivotal in their survival bid.
