Police in Scotland have arrested several individuals following clashes between rival protesters in Glasgow city centre on Sunday. The disturbances occurred during competing demonstrations on immigration at Glasgow Green, a public park located southeast of the city centre.

The anti-immigration group Unite The Clans Scotland organized a rally under the slogans “save our women and children” and “protect our future,” with the event scheduled to begin at noon local time (1100 GMT). In response, the Stand Up To Racism group assembled a counter-protest aimed at opposing what it described as far-right elements in Glasgow.

Social media footage, not independently verified, showed physical altercations and confrontations between participants from both sides. Police officers, including mounted units, intervened to control the disorder as demonstrators on both sides wore masks during the events.

In a statement released mid-afternoon, Police Scotland acknowledged the disorder, noting a “significant policing operation” was underway. The force confirmed that multiple arrests had been made but did not specify the exact number or charges involved. Authorities urged members of the public with concerns to approach officers and emphasized the challenges posed by the situation, assuring that efforts were being made to bring it under control.

The Glasgow Green protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations concerning immigration issues in Scotland’s largest city. Similar protests, some of which have resulted in violent incidents, have taken place across towns and cities in England in recent years, reflecting ongoing national tensions around migration and community relations.
