Scunthorpe United secured their first victory of the National League season with a 3-1 comeback win over Solihull Moors on Saturday, ending a three-game winless run. The match, played at Glanford Park, marked a turning point for Scunthorpe after a challenging start that included two consecutive away defeats and just one point from their opening fixtures.

Solihull Moors took the lead in the early stages through Jacob Wakeling, who capitalised on a free-kick from Cameron Green. Wakeling’s goal was his third of the campaign, giving the visitors an early advantage despite their ongoing struggles to find points this season. Moors also came close to extending their lead, but goalkeeper Louis Jones made a key save to keep Scunthorpe in the game.

Scunthorpe’s response was swift. Player-coach Jacob Butterfield capitalised on a defensive error by Solihull, sending a long-range shot that deflected over the goalkeeper Max Metcalfe for an equaliser. After halftime, Scunthorpe took control of the match and moved in front on 56 minutes when Gale reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area and scored his fourth goal in all competitions.

Manager Andy Butler praised his side’s improved performance following the victory. “It was an improved performance, and performances equals results,” he said. Butler noted some luck was involved but maintained that the overall result was deserved. He highlighted the influence of the team's forward duo, describing them as young, hungry, and a key factor in lifting the entire squad.

Butler also made tactical adjustments during the match with an eye on their upcoming fixture against Carlisle United. One of the substitutes, Alfie Beestin, sealed the win shortly after entering the game. Full-back Tyler Denton played a crucial role in the final goal by retrieving possession and setting up Dec Howe, who then assisted Beestin. The substitute finished with a composed strike to make it 3-1 and secure the win.

The result offers Scunthorpe a timely boost and eases some of the early-season pressure ahead of their trip to Carlisle United. The team will look to build on this momentum as they continue their National League campaign.
