South Korean badminton player An Se-young secured her 47th international women’s singles title with a come-from-behind victory over Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi at the Denmark Open final on Sunday. The match took place at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense, where An won 21-23, 21-14, 21-18 to set a new record for the most international titles in women’s singles.
With this win, An surpassed Indonesian legend Susi Susanti, who previously held the record with 46 titles. Spain’s Carolina Marin, who retired in March, remains third on the list with 39 titles. At 24 years old, An has rapidly established herself as one of the most successful players in the history of the sport.
An secured several major achievements earlier this year, including the women’s singles gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also claimed titles at the World Championships, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, while contributing to South Korea's victories at the Asia Team Championships and the Uber Cup Finals.
Despite her record-breaking accomplishments, An expressed a grounded approach to her career. “I want to make a lot of history and break records but I focus on one match at a time. That is my motivation,” she said in a post-match interview. She also acknowledged the support of fans, adding, “The crowds turn out for me and I’m so happy people enjoy every match I play.”
An Se-young’s continued success highlights her dominance in women’s badminton and signals the potential for further milestones in her career going forward.
