Leeds United midfielder Sean Longstaff is being urged to elevate his performances as he competes for a regular place in the team. The 28-year-old faces increased competition in midfield, having slipped behind Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu, and Ao Tanaka in the pecking order.

Longstaff, who joined Leeds last summer from Newcastle United for £12 million, is expected to be on the bench when Leeds host his former club Newcastle in their upcoming Premier League fixture. Despite limited minutes this season—just eight in the league—Leeds head coach Daniel Farke expressed confidence in Longstaff’s abilities and character.

“Sean’s a top guy, a top character, and one of our most experienced players at this level, having played many Premier League games,” Farke said. He added that Longstaff possesses the skills to make meaningful contributions, whether by scoring or assisting. However, Farke acknowledged the midfielder’s recent missed opportunity during the Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea, a moment that highlighted the need for consistent performance.

Longstaff started in both Carabao Cup matches against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea but has struggled to secure regular Premier League playing time. Farke emphasized the depth of competition within the squad, underscoring that all midfield players must remain fully engaged to earn their spot.

As Leeds continue their campaign, Longstaff’s challenge will be to respond to this competition with improved performances in training and matches to reclaim a more prominent role in the team.
