A search-and-rescue operation continues into its sixth day as authorities work to locate a missing San Diego man and his 12-year-old nephew who disappeared off the coast of Baja California. Oscar Ulloa, 40, and his nephew, Adrian Caro Villares, went missing after setting out early Saturday morning for a planned fishing trip near San Felipe.

Their disappearance coincided with the arrival of Tropical Storm Rachel, which battered the Baja California peninsula with strong winds and severe flooding, resulting in at least eight fatalities in the region. The storm raised concerns about possible mechanical failure or other dangers that may have affected the boat during the worsening weather conditions.

Vice Admiral Juan Carlos Vera Minjares confirmed that the search effort has deployed six naval units, including coastal patrol boats and a specialized search aircraft. The teams have covered more than 9,900 square nautical miles so far in the ongoing operation. Family members expressed deep concern, highlighting the distress of having a child among those missing.

The circumstances surrounding the disappearance remain unclear, with the last contact before the storm’s impact and no further communication reported. Authorities and family members remain hopeful for a positive outcome as the search continues.
