Search and rescue efforts remain underway for 10-year-old Sbeet al Najadi, who disappeared while swimming with friends at Shiya Beach in the Wilayat of Sur on the evening of September 30. The child was reportedly caught in rough sea conditions, prompting a coordinated response from multiple agencies.
The ongoing operation involves the Coast Guard Police Unit, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate Police, Police Aviation, and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA). Teams conducting the search are focusing on both marine and coastal areas, deploying specialized diving and rescue units alongside boats to extend the coverage.
In addition to official agencies, local residents, volunteers, and private organizations have joined the search. Social media campaigns in various languages have been launched to seek assistance from experienced divers and members of the public who might have information or resources to contribute. Wissam Masirah Marine Services Company is among the private entities that have responded to calls for support.
Local fishermen have also actively participated. Salah al Balushi, a fisherman from Sur, said he and a friend began searching early the morning after the incident. “We set out at 6 a.m. in a small boat—just the two of us,” he said. “One operated the vessel while the other searched the water. We continued until 1 p.m., scouring various areas in the hope of finding him.” He added that search operations are ongoing with the support of police, volunteers, and community members.
Volunteers have established a coordination point at the mosque near Shiya Beach to organize search efforts. The Sur Zakat Committee and the Sur Volunteer Team are providing logistical support by distributing water and meals to those involved in the operation.
Authorities have not released an official statement on the status of the search, but all parties continue their efforts to locate the missing child amid challenging sea conditions.
