Sebastian Beccacece has resigned as head coach of the Ecuador national football team following their elimination from the 2026 World Cup. The 45-year-old Argentine announced his departure shortly after Ecuador’s 2-0 defeat to co-host Mexico in the round of 32, which took place on Tuesday in Mexico City.

The match was decided in the first half by goals from Mexican forwards Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez, ending Ecuador’s campaign in the tournament. Despite the early exit, Beccacece highlighted the positive aspects of his tenure, emphasizing the team’s development and the values upheld throughout his time in charge.

“We have built a beautiful legacy and had to undergo a journey with dignity, honesty and transparency,” Beccacece stated, reflecting on his period as Ecuador’s coach. His resignation marks the conclusion of a chapter for Ecuador as they look to regroup and prepare for future international competitions.
