The Oman Football Association (OFA) has announced the second edition of the Oman Refco Girls’ Academies Championship, a tournament aimed at promoting girls’ participation in football across the country. The competition, scheduled for November, is part of the celebrations for Omani Women’s Day, observed annually on October 17, and is exclusively sponsored by Oman Refreshment Company SAOG (Oman Refco).
The announcement took place during a ceremony at Oman Refco’s headquarters in Muscat, attended by Hajer al Muzaini, OFA Board Member and Chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee, and Youssef Ezzikhe, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Refco. The championship will feature female players between the ages of 11 and 16 and seeks to identify and nurture emerging talent while strengthening the role of sports academies in advancing women’s football in Oman.
This event marks the continuation of a partnership between the OFA’s Women’s Football Committee and Oman Refco, underscoring the private sector’s significant role in supporting initiatives that empower young girls and enhance their involvement in the nation’s sports environment.
Al Muzaini emphasized that the development of women’s football hinges on providing genuine opportunities for girls to engage with the sport. She stated that consistent competitions, along with an encouraging environment, are essential to building a solid foundation of female players. According to her, the Oman Refco Girls’ Academies Championship serves not only as a competitive platform but also as an opportunity for participants to gain experience and confidence, fostering a long-term connection with football.
She also highlighted the committee’s broader goals, which include increasing the number of female players and encouraging academies to invest more in training and development. Al Muzaini described each girl’s participation as a valuable step toward establishing a wider and sustainable sports structure for women’s football in Oman.
Further, she praised the ongoing collaboration with Oman Refco, noting that partnerships between sports bodies and the private sector are vital for expanding opportunities for young female athletes. The committee hopes that the championship will inspire more academies and players to contribute to the continued growth of women’s football in the country.
