Dhofar Municipality has opened sections of the Al Ma’amoura-Razat dual carriageway in Salalah to traffic, marking progress in efforts to enhance the city’s road infrastructure. The project, valued at over RO 4 million, focuses on upgrading the main road network in the eastern part of Salalah, aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and supporting the area’s ongoing urban and tourism development.

According to Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Baowain, Director-General of Projects and Technical Affairs at Dhofar Municipality, the initiative involves constructing a dual carriageway along the existing route connecting Al Ma’amoura roundabout and Razat roundabout. The road will span approximately 5.5 kilometers and include two lanes in each direction, along with inner and outer shoulders and a variable-width central median. All construction is being carried out following approved engineering specifications.

While sections of the new carriageway have already been opened to vehicles, Dr. Baowain indicated that the project timeline has extended beyond initial projections. The completion date is now anticipated to be September 2027. The delay comes amid the municipality's broader strategy to accommodate increasing traffic demands linked to Salalah’s expanding urban footprint and growing tourism sector.
