A security guard convicted of plotting to kidnap, rape, and murder television presenter Holly Willoughby has lost his appeal against the length of his sentence. Gavin Plumb was handed a life sentence in July 2024, with a minimum term of 16 years to be served before eligibility for parole.

Plumb was unanimously found guilty of soliciting murder and encouraging or assisting others in committing rape and kidnapping offenses targeting the former This Morning presenter. The conviction followed an investigation into his detailed plans to carry out the attacks.

The Court of Appeal reviewed Plumb’s challenge to the severity of his sentence but upheld the original ruling. Judges determined that the sentence appropriately reflected the gravity of the offenses and the risk posed by Plumb.

The case drew significant public attention given the high-profile nature of the victim and the disturbing nature of the plot. Authorities emphasized the seriousness with which such threats against public figures are treated, noting the importance of both protecting individuals and deterring similar offenses.

Plumb will remain in custody for the minimum term ordered before any possibility of release is considered. The ruling marks the conclusion of the legal process in this case.
