Selangor has unveiled an ambitious strategic plan aimed at fostering balanced economic growth and improving quality of life across the state by 2030. The initiative, which sets a series of measurable targets, seeks to position Selangor as a model state in the ASEAN region for equitable development and sustainability.
The state government has outlined six core missions guiding this vision. These include promoting balanced development across districts, enhancing wellbeing, nurturing productive and inclusive human capital, ensuring sustainability, and strengthening governance through a people-centered and business-friendly approach.
Key goals set for 2030 include achieving a 2.2% unemployment rate and maintaining a median income of RM14,500. The plan also aims to narrow economic disparities with a targeted 1:2 ratio of GDP growth across Selangor’s districts. A notable environmental commitment involves preserving 31% of the state’s land as designated forest reserves and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% relative to 2005 levels by 2035.
Digital transformation is a central pillar of the strategy, with a target of 85% of government services delivered through end-to-end digital platforms. The government also seeks to elevate the performance of all local authorities, aiming for each to achieve a 95% score in the state’s Star Rating system for municipal governance by 2030.
To support these broad ambitions, Selangor has approved a cumulative investment of RM330 billion over the next five years, which will underpin initiatives across 25 priority areas. These encompass economic development tailored to local conditions, housing, healthcare, education, workforce development, climate resilience, conservation, and digital government, among others.
The plan emphasizes sustainable growth by incorporating green technology, low-carbon urban development, waste management, water security, and disaster management into its framework. It also stresses enhancing ease of doing business and good governance, alongside diversified and sustainable revenue streams.
The government aims to cultivate a state that is not only economically competitive but also inclusive and resilient, with improved quality of life for all residents. The strategic vision integrates cross-sector collaboration, including alignment among state government-linked companies and programs, to foster long-term, balanced development throughout Selangor’s districts.
With clear quantitative targets and a comprehensive scope, Selangor’s blueprint seeks to transform the state into a sustainable, livable, and economically vibrant region by 2030.
