A senior medical officer at a public hospital in Melaka has been remanded for five days in connection with an alleged procurement irregularity involving knee implants valued at approximately RM1.5 million. The remand order was granted by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The officer, aged in his 50s and a civil servant, was taken into custody on September 7 after voluntarily appearing at the MACC headquarters in Alai to have his statement recorded. Preliminary investigations indicate the alleged misconduct occurred over a two-year period from 2024 to 2026.

Authorities suspect the medical officer abused his position during the awarding of contracts for the knee implant supply. It is believed he holds an interest in the company that secured the contracts—an entity reportedly owned by a family member. This connection has raised concerns about conflicts of interest and potential corruption.

Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest and stated the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to the misuse of one’s office or position for gratification. The investigation aims to determine the extent of any wrongdoing and whether other individuals may be implicated.
