TEHRAN — Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has issued a warning to regional countries supporting militant groups operating near Iran’s southeastern border, asserting that Tehran holds concrete evidence of their involvement and is prepared to respond decisively.

Speaking on security challenges in Sistan and Baluchestan province, which shares a roughly 1,300-kilometer border with Pakistan and Afghanistan, Azizi described the evolving tactics of counter-revolutionary factions in the area. He highlighted a shift toward hybrid warfare enabled by backing from certain states and groups aligned with adversaries of Iran. Azizi emphasized that this information is based on verified intelligence rather than mere analysis, pointing to recent meetings with officials that corroborated the presence of such externally supported actions originating from neighboring countries.

Azizi credited the Quds Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ground Force, alongside the regular army and law enforcement agencies, for implementing strict security measures. He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts, including border security enhancements, border closures, and domestic defense development, will address the remaining threats and stabilize the region.

Warning both the United States and some regional countries, Azizi underscored that those providing substantial resources to the counter-revolutionary groups must be aware that Iran possesses all necessary intelligence documents to confront these entities. Drawing a parallel with Iran’s experience in overcoming coalition opposition during the combined war, he stated that the country will similarly confront proxy groups aligned with U.S. interests.

Azizi further noted that some regional actors, previously aligned with the United States and now perceiving themselves as defeated, have joined these efforts against Iran. He stressed that the Islamic Republic remains vigilant, alert, and well-prepared, praising the capabilities of the Quds Headquarters following a recent visit.

Addressing local grievances, Azizi insisted that the government has long dedicated substantial resources to support residents of Sistan and Baluchestan and neighboring South Khorasan provinces. He rejected allegations of discrimination, attributing such claims to either misinformation or ill intent.

Condemning recent violent acts in the province, including the killing of a female police officer involved in social affairs, Azizi described the attacks as brutal and inhumane. He asserted that the perpetrators misunderstand both the local population and the authority of the Islamic Republic.

Concluding his remarks, Azizi called on the government to prioritize complete closure of the southeastern borders using allocated funds, accelerate the deployment of advanced border monitoring technologies, and dismantle remaining security threats. These measures, he said, are essential to pave the way for sustainable development and prosperity in the border regions.
