A 68-year-old man shot his 70-year-old girlfriend and her 60-year-old companion inside an apartment in the Bronx on Saturday evening, authorities said. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in a ninth-floor unit near East 173rd Street and Third Avenue.
According to police, the man fired once at the woman, striking her in the abdomen, and shot the other victim multiple times in the chest. The shooting was reportedly the result of a love triangle dispute.
Following the gunfire, the suspect barricaded himself along with the two victims inside the apartment. The New York Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit responded and eventually apprehended the man after a standoff.
Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. As of Sunday, the shooter was awaiting formal charges.
No further details on the motive or relationship dynamics have been released by officials. The investigation remains ongoing.
