Sergio Garcia has announced his departure from the LIV Golf circuit, setting his sights on an 11th Ryder Cup appearance at the event scheduled to take place in Ireland next year. The move comes as LIV Golf continues efforts to restructure after filing for bankruptcy protection, while European players have faced warnings that signing with the revamped league could lead to ineligibility for European Tour membership and, consequently, exclusion from the Ryder Cup.

Garcia, the all-time leading points scorer in Ryder Cup history with 28.5 points over 10 appearances, made the announcement via a post on social media platform X on Friday. The 46-year-old Spaniard, who won the 2017 US Masters, indicated his intention to return to the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), a circuit that has been central to his career from its early stages. He also mentioned keeping his options open for a potential return to the PGA Tour.

In his statement, Garcia reflected on his performance at the Masters Tournament earlier this year, where he received a code-of-conduct warning after breaking his driver on the second hole. "I left Augusta this year disappointed with myself and my actions," he said, emphasizing his focus during the offseason on improving his game, developing a strong mindset, and prioritizing mental health. He expressed a strong desire to compete again at Augusta National and pursue another Masters title.

Another key objective for Garcia is to make the Ryder Cup team and contribute to the squad in whatever role is needed. "In golf, everything is earned and nothing is given," he added, signaling his commitment to the hard work required to achieve these goals.

His departure follows recent exits from LIV Golf by other prominent European players, including England’s Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton. Additionally, two-time major winner Jon Rahm reached a separation agreement with the league earlier this month. These developments underscore ongoing uncertainty among players about their future with LIV Golf as the league navigates financial and operational challenges.
