Seven countries have submitted bids to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, marking a diverse and geographically broad interest in hosting the global event. The candidates include Germany, India, Qatar, Hungary, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey. The deadline for additional bids closes on October 31, allowing other nations or cities to express their interest in hosting the Games.

If selected, the 2036 Olympics would showcase new regions as hosts; notably, parts of South Asia, the African continent, and the Gulf region have not previously hosted the Summer Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide the host city during a session scheduled for mid-2029.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry emphasized the organisation’s commitment to keeping athletes central to the event’s planning and execution, stating that regardless of location, focus on athletes remains paramount.

The upcoming Olympics in 2028 is set to be held in Los Angeles, continuing the tradition of rotating the Games among different continents and nations. The decision on the 2036 host will follow in the years after, allowing ample time for the selected city to prepare for the complex logistical and infrastructural demands of hosting the Olympics.
