The mummified remains of Richard Scatchard, a 70-year-old sex offender wanted in connection with the death of his partner, were discovered in a caravan six months after his disappearance, an inquest has heard. Scatchard vanished the day after Kelly Faiers, 61, was found dead at his residence in Minehead, Somerset, on October 15, 2023.
Faiers, a mother of four, died from an overdose involving sleeping tablets and alcohol. She had been in a relationship with Scatchard for approximately six months after meeting him through a dating website. Scatchard was on licence following a life sentence for drugging and sexually assaulting women.
Earlier this week, the coroner concluded that Faiers was unlawfully killed. The inquest is ongoing as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and Scatchard’s disappearance.
