Seychelles’ state oil company, SEYPEC, is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to enhance its role in the Western Indian Ocean region while bolstering domestic fuel security. The company, which maintains infrastructure capable of sustaining local demand for up to six months, is focusing on diversifying its supply sources and expanding its regional influence as part of its 2026 to 2030 strategic plan.

Currently, SEYPEC relies primarily on the United Arab Emirates for certain petroleum products, excluding LPG, but aims to broaden its contingency options by cultivating partnerships with East African nations such as Zanzibar and Mozambique. This diversification effort is intended to strengthen the company’s resilience and secure long-term fuel affordability for Seychelles.

Alongside its supply strategy, SEYPEC is undertaking operational upgrades and placing renewed emphasis on human resource development and succession planning. The company reports a high staff retention rate and is investing in training programs designed to prepare employees for future leadership roles. CEO Captain Adrian Mondon highlighted the importance of these efforts, noting the goal of aligning management standards in Seychelles with international benchmarks.

In addition to traditional fuel activities, SEYPEC is advancing environmental sustainability by investing in solar power initiatives and transitioning to low-sulfur marine fuels in response to evolving industry regulations. These moves align with broader national objectives to protect Seychelles’ natural heritage and promote the blue economy.

Captain Mondon also underscored the potential for increased investment from the UAE, viewing Seychelles as an emerging market receptive to innovation and growth. He cited government support for entrepreneurship and youth engagement in new economic sectors as evidence of the country’s progress, emphasizing that SEYPEC’s strengthening reputation enhances the broader investment climate.

By leveraging new partnerships, upgrading operational capabilities, and focusing on sustainable development, SEYPEC aims to establish itself as a leading oil and gas entity in the region while supporting Seychelles’ economic and environmental priorities through the end of the decade.
