Bollywood actor and co-owner of the Los Angeles Knight Riders franchise Shah Rukh Khan officially inaugurated a new cricket stadium at the Fairplex in Pomona, Los Angeles, California. The unveiling took place in early July, marking a significant milestone for cricket’s expansion in the United States.
The newly constructed facility, known as the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, is poised to play a key role as a venue for cricket during the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. This development represents one of the first major steps toward establishing cricket as a mainstream sport in the region.
Khan expressed his enthusiasm on social media, describing the project as a dream that has become a reality. He emphasized that the venue is designed not only for sports competition but also as a family-friendly space for entertainment and creating lasting memories. Khan also acknowledged the contributions of key supporters throughout the stadium’s development, including Jaybhai, Jay Shah, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and others.
“This is for LA, for cricket fans across the globe, and for the Knight Riders family,” Khan said. “Believe in Purple and Gold. Welcome to the home of LA Knight Riders.”
The stadium is scheduled to host its inaugural competitive cricket match shortly after the opening ceremony. It will also serve as the home ground for the Los Angeles Knight Riders franchise, which will play its first-ever home game in Major League Cricket at the venue.
This launch reflects ongoing efforts to increase cricket’s profile in the United States, particularly ahead of its debut as an Olympic sport in 2028. The Knight Riders Group, which owns the stadium and the LA Knight Riders team, is actively involved in developing cricket infrastructure and fan engagement in North America.
