Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s remarkable streak of consecutive 20-point games came to an end Thursday night during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets. The Thunder star voluntarily ended his run by subbing himself out late in the game, which marked the conclusion of his streak at 141 regular season contests.

Gilgeous-Alexander had just drilled a three-pointer, raising his point total to 17 and helping the Thunder build a 17-point lead with under two minutes remaining. The Nuggets then called a timeout, and when play resumed, the opposing team switched out their entire starting lineup. Recognizing the game’s outcome was effectively decided, Gilgeous-Alexander chose to remain on the bench rather than re-enter the game, aware that his streak would officially end.

The Thunder went on to secure a 96-84 victory, improving their record to 2-0 for the season. Speaking after the game in Oklahoma City, Gilgeous-Alexander said, “I feel like you always treat the game with respect,” alluding to his decision to step aside rather than artificially extend the streak.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s run shattered the previous NBA record held by Wilt Chamberlain, who had a streak of 126 games scoring 20 or more points during the regular season. The current streak spanned multiple seasons, marking a historic achievement in consistency and scoring ability for the Thunder guard.
