Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, inaugurated a new orphanage and laid the foundation stone for a housing project in the Dinas area of Mindanao, Philippines. The initiatives, announced on October 19, aim to provide essential support to underprivileged communities on the island.
The projects consist of Dar Al Rahma Orphanage and Al Reeh Al Mursala Village, both facilitated through the “Al Reeh Al Mursala” programme operated by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority in partnership with Sharjah Charity International. The programme raises funds through broadcasts on Sharjah TV and Sharjah Radio, which are then directed toward humanitarian efforts in vulnerable regions.
During the event, Sheikh Dr Sultan emphasized that charitable work is a fundamental value deeply embedded in the United Arab Emirates’ ethos. He expressed appreciation to the donors who contributed to the initiative, noting that their support directly addresses basic needs in disadvantaged villages. These efforts, he said, are designed to improve living conditions, promote dignity, and enable the beneficiaries to become educated and productive members of society.
Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, underscored the collaboration between his organization and Sharjah Charity International, describing the projects as a demonstration of ongoing humanitarian partnerships. He highlighted the critical role of public donations collected through the “Al Reeh Al Mursala” broadcasts in helping fund the orphanage and housing village.
The Al Reeh Al Mursala Village is envisioned as a comprehensive development aimed at stabilizing families and communities facing hardship by providing housing and essential services. The orphanage is intended to offer shelter and care for children without parental support, addressing a pressing social need in the Mindanao region.
These initiatives align with broader efforts by the UAE to support vulnerable populations abroad, reflecting a strategic emphasis on international humanitarian aid and community development. The launch in Mindanao adds to a growing portfolio of overseas charitable projects spearheaded by governmental and non-governmental organizations from the UAE.
