Sharjah is set to enhance its passport control operations at Sharjah International Airport by recruiting 150 officers in three phases beginning in October. This initiative, approved by the Sharjah Executive Council, aims to accommodate the growing number of flights and passengers amid ongoing expansion and development at the airport. The recruitment drive also seeks to create job opportunities for Emirati nationals and support their professional growth.

The decision was made during the Council’s weekly meeting, chaired by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council.

In addition to staffing plans for the airport, the Council greenlit the Khatwa licence initiative, which permits university and higher education students to participate in economic activities and develop entrepreneurial ventures. This program is designed to encourage youth engagement in business and innovation.

The Council also announced the approval of all 6,700 housing support applications submitted by citizens through the Sharjah Department of Housing, reflecting an ongoing commitment to meet residents’ housing needs.

Furthermore, the Executive Council reviewed efforts by the Department of Statistics and Community Development to undertake a comprehensive update of Sharjah’s gross domestic product (GDP). The review aims to broaden data sources and sector coverage to produce more accurate and detailed estimates that better represent the emirate’s economic scope and diversity.
