His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced the construction of an underground pedestrian tunnel linking the Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal Mosque to Cultural Square. The project aims to provide a safe passage for pedestrians while preserving the surrounding flowers and pathways, and enabling visitors to take photographs without disrupting traffic or landscaping.

Sheikh Dr Sultan disclosed the details during a broadcast of the Direct Line programme by the Sharjah Broadcast Authority. Construction of the tunnel is currently underway, and it is expected to enhance accessibility between the mosque and the square, which holds cultural and religious significance.

The ruler also highlighted the importance of the Holy Quran monument located at Cultural Square, describing it as a symbol of the Quran’s guiding role for Muslims. He noted that the square could be alternatively referred to as Quran Square or Book Square, emphasizing its cultural relevance.

In addition, Sheikh Dr Sultan confirmed that the second instalment of his Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopaedia will be presented at the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair, set to open at Expo Centre Sharjah on November 4 under the theme "Made of Stories." This edition will bring the total number of completed volumes to 130 out of a planned 500.

The encyclopaedia project spans four years and covers a broad range of subjects including science, literature, the arts, and notable figures. The first instalment, released last year, comprised 46 volumes. The third instalment is scheduled for next year, followed by the final instalment the year after.

Sheikh Dr Sultan described the encyclopaedia as an unprecedented academic effort involving the collaboration of 1,300 researchers. The initial phase included approximately 1,000 specialists in religious sciences, Arabic studies, and other disciplines. An additional 300 experts joined this year to expand coverage of literature and the arts, encompassing fields such as theatre, novels, photography, and painting.
