National artistic gymnast Mohd Sharul Aimy finished eighth in the men’s vault final at the Aichi-Nagoya Games held yesterday at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium. The 25-year-old athlete recorded scores of 13.533 and 13.466 on his two vault attempts, resulting in an average of 13.499 points.

Sharul, who earned a bronze medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, reached the final despite enduring a difficult year marked by shoulder and meniscus injuries. His performance in Nagoya marked the conclusion of his competition at the event, though he did not advance to the podium this time.

The gold medal was won by Carlos Yulo of the Philippines, who achieved a top score of 14.599 points. Egypt’s Mahdi Olfati took the silver with a total of 14.533 points, while Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki earned the bronze with 14.116 points.

Olfati came close to capturing the title after delivering a notable first vault scored at 15.100 points, executing his signature move known as “the Olfati.” However, a lower second vault score of 13.966 impacted his overall ranking, preventing him from overtaking Yulo for the gold.
