Herbert, 48, known by nicknames such as Jersey and Mr. Probation, is an experienced music industry professional and partner at the entertainment company Power Moves. Raised in Newark, New Jersey, and later Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he began his career as a DJ during his teenage years and subsequently worked in artist and repertoire divisions at various record labels. Pettaway, 42, grew up in Central Islip, New York, and earned a political science degree from Pace University. She later specialized in music publicity, co-founding the Legion Media Group.

Their relationship began with a professional connection in 2010 when Pettaway, then seeking a rap artist for one of her clients, connected with Herbert to secure a guest vocal appearance. At that time, both were in other long-term relationships; Herbert was involved with the mother of his three children, while Pettaway was married to the father of her son. This included the jumping of a broom and traditional soca music. Pettaway, raised Catholic, was escorted down the aisle by her father to the hymn “Ave Maria.” The couple also honored Pettaway’s late mother, who passed away earlier in 2026, in a solemn moment during the celebration.
