Sheikh Mohammed, ruler of Dubai and head of the Godolphin racing operation, spent more than £15 million acquiring 11 yearlings at the Tattersalls Book 1 sale in Newmarket on Tuesday. The purchases came amid a competitive bidding process that saw Sheikh Mohammed’s team outbid prominent rivals, including Coolmore and Amo Racing, owned by Kia Joorabchian.

The majority of the new acquisitions are expected to be sent to trainer Charlie Appleby as part of Godolphin’s ongoing efforts to secure future elite racehorses. Among the most notable purchases was a son of Night of Thunder, bought for £4.6 million, and a £3.8 million colt sired by Wootton Bassett. These high-profile acquisitions underscore Godolphin’s continued investment in bloodstock aimed at maintaining its leading position in the international racing scene.

Separately, attention is turning to two-time Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz, whose future will be decided by Aga Khan Stud following a scheduled meeting. The horse secured a victory on Sunday in Paris, which is widely expected to be his final race before retiring to stud. If confirmed, this would mark the end of Daryz’s distinguished career, as no horse has ever won the Arc three times.

Sheikh Mohammed’s substantial investment at Tattersalls reflects the ongoing competition among leading global racing interests seeking promising yearlings to develop into future champions.
