Qatar Museums Chairperson Her Excellency Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the new office of UTOPIA, an AI-native venture platform, on Thursday at M7, a hub dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship in fashion, design, and technology located in Msheireb Downtown Doha. The event saw the participation of prominent government officials, industry leaders, and technology entrepreneurs from around the world.
Among those present were His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, general secretary of the National Planning Council, and Abdulrahman bin Hesham Al Sowaidi, chief executive officer of Qatar Development Bank (QDB), which acts as a strategic partner to UTOPIA. Representatives from leading Qatari institutions, including Qatar Foundation, Qatar Media City, Jusour, Sidra Medicine, Hassad Food, MEEZA, Commercial Bank, Alwatania International Holdings, and Snoonu, also attended.
UTOPIA operates as a venture platform focused on building, investing in, and scaling technology startups originating from Qatar, in partnership with Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and QDB. The platform aims to facilitate early access for Qatari companies to emerging technologies, allowing them to influence product development and secure ownership stakes through investments and partnerships. This model seeks to enhance Qatar’s position as a regional hub for the development, localization, and export of technology to international markets.
Sheikha Al-Mayassa emphasized Qatar’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship under the leadership of Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. “At M7, we give people space to explore ideas, develop their talents and build businesses,” she said, highlighting the role UTOPIA will play in helping founders transform knowledge and ambition into technology companies that can expand globally.
Entrepreneurs from UTOPIA’s portfolio, representing sectors such as logistics, data infrastructure, health technology, and food technology, traveled to Doha for the inauguration. They engaged with local companies throughout the week to explore pilot programs, contracts, and partnerships.
UTOPIA’s founding partners underscored Doha’s strategic importance as the platform’s base. Alina Truhina, founding and managing partner, pointed to the democratizing effect of artificial intelligence, noting that “a founder in Doha now has the same capabilities as one in San Francisco.” She described their mission as translating local industry expertise into technology that Qatar can own and export.
Roo Rogers, another founding partner, highlighted the long-term impact of UTOPIA’s model, saying the companies anchored in Qatar will generate jobs, technical skills, and intellectual property within the private sector. These enterprises, he asserted, will develop valuable partnerships with Qatari industries while earning revenue internationally, contributing to the growth of a sustainable technology ecosystem in the country.
