A shooting at a food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle landmark on Sunday resulted in three fatalities and at least four injuries, including a toddler, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the Seattle Centre area, a frequented tourist district in the northwestern United States.

Seattle Police confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody, while efforts continue to locate a second individual believed to be involved. Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis stated that two firearms were recovered at the scene and indicated that the shooting appeared to involve an exchange of gunfire between two persons.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, with a third succumbing to injuries after being transported to the hospital. The wounded individuals include a young child who was among those hurt.

Officials assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community following the incident. Washington Governor Bob Fergusson noted that State Patrol SWAT teams had been deployed to support local police in managing the situation. Speaking on social media platform X, he extended condolences to the victims’ families and acknowledged the efforts of emergency responders.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson described the event as “an act of horrific violence,” emphasizing the city’s focus on those who lost their lives, those injured, and their families. Authorities have not released additional information on the motives behind the shooting or the status of the investigation.
