DOHA — The Shura Council passed a new food safety law and reviewed a proposal related to reinforcing family values among youth during its regular session on Monday, chaired by Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem.

The legislation, which had been amended following reports and discussions within the Health, General Services and Environment Committee, was approved by the Council and subsequently referred to the government for further implementation. This marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to enhance food safety standards.

In addition to the food safety law, the Council addressed a report from the Social Affairs, Labour and Housing Committee concerning the government’s response to an earlier proposal on promoting family upbringing and strengthening national and social values among younger generations. The Council resolved the matter after consideration of the government’s feedback.

The session also included the presentation of several parliamentary engagement reports. These detailed the Council’s recent international activities, including its delegation’s participation in the Second Women Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean held in Abu Dhabi in January. Furthermore, Sultan bin Hassan al-Dabit al-Dosari represented the Council at a temporary diplomatic committee meeting of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union in Cairo in February. Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari also took part in a March videoconference seminar focusing on counterterrorism frameworks and safeguarding humanitarian efforts under international humanitarian law.

These discussions and decisions highlight the Council's ongoing role in shaping legislative priorities and engaging in regional parliamentary cooperation.
