KUWAIT CITY – A technical fault involving three 33 kV transformers at the Shuwaikh (A) main substation caused a brief power outage in parts of Shuwaikh, specifically Block Six, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy reported. The malfunction coincided with high temperatures and an increased electrical load, which contributed to the failure.

Emergency maintenance crews were promptly dispatched to address the issue, successfully restoring power within a few hours, the ministry confirmed. No further disruptions were reported following the repair work.

Separately, the ministry has initiated pre-award procedures for a major infrastructure project aimed at expanding Kuwait’s clean energy capacity. The tender for the supply and installation of a 400 kV overhead transmission line connecting the Shagaya solar power plant to the Wafra (Z) main substation, valued at KD35.962 million, has been submitted to the State Audit Bureau for review and pre-audit. This strategic project is part of the government’s broader efforts to support renewable energy integration into the national grid and enhance the country’s power system resilience.
