New Zealand netball players Grace Nweke and Amelia Walmsley have secured contracts with teams in Australia’s Super Netball league, expanding their professional careers across the Tasman Sea.

Nweke, a towering 1.92-meter shooter known for her scoring ability, has committed to a three-year deal with the Sydney Sirens, a newly rebranded franchise that succeeded the former Giants team. This contract marks the longest tenure signed by any New Zealand player in the league to date. The Sirens will benefit from Nweke’s partnership with Australian Diamonds goal attack Sophie Dwyer, forming a strong attacking combination aimed at elevating the club’s competitive standing.

In a statement shared through the Giants’ social media channels, Nweke expressed enthusiasm about joining the Sirens and her connection to Sydney, where she has lived for two years. She emphasized her excitement about contributing to the development of the new franchise’s identity and culture.

Meanwhile, Walmsley has secured a one-year contract with the Melbourne Vixens, a franchise with a prominent history in Super Netball. The Vixens have reached the grand final in each of the past three seasons, capturing the championship in 2023 and finishing as runners-up in 2024. Walmsley will join fellow Silver Ferns midcourter Mila Reuelu-Buchanan and defender Carys Stythe at the Melbourne club.

Walmsley, formerly with the Northern Stars, is expected to collaborate closely in the shooting circle with Australia Diamonds goal attack Kiera Austin. Their partnership will attract added interest ahead of the October Constellation Cup, when the Silver Ferns face the Australian national team.

These signings reflect the continued integration of New Zealand talent within the highly competitive Australian Super Netball league, providing both players opportunities to develop their skills and compete at the highest level of netball in the region.
