Singapore telecommunications firm Singtel and Thailand’s energy company Gulf Development have announced a joint initiative to develop submarine cable infrastructure connecting Thailand and Singapore. The partnership aims to address the increasing regional demand for data center capacity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence services.
Under the collaboration, the two companies will invest in subsea cable assets, with their initial project set to be the Vietnam-Thailand-Singapore Cable System. This new subsea link will enhance connectivity between Thailand and Singapore and is expected to become operational by 2030.
In addition to this cable system, Singtel and Gulf Development have indicated potential future investments in terrestrial cable networks and other submarine cable projects, reflecting broader efforts to build resilient and high-capacity digital infrastructure across Southeast Asia.
