SiriusXM is set to launch a new subscription service aimed specifically at sports fans, offering extensive live coverage of major sporting events across a single platform. The Sports Pass, priced at $5 per month, will become available on September 1, providing access to live game broadcasts for both home and away contests spanning a wide range of sports.
The subscription package promises comprehensive coverage of popular leagues and events, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One, the PGA Tour, WWE, and international soccer. In addition to live broadcasts, subscribers will have access to expert analysis, podcasts, and 24 local sports stations, such as ESPN LA 710.
Jennifer Witz, SiriusXM’s chief executive, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering a unified sports listening experience. She described the Sports Pass as an affordable way for fans to stay connected to the teams, voices, and conversations that matter most to them, regardless of their location or preferred sport.
The introduction of the Sports Pass reflects the growing importance of sports content within SiriusXM’s broader business strategy. The company stated that sports is a significant driver of user engagement, with an increasing number of subscribers tuning in for live events and related programming. This aligns with the trend of creating tailored content packages to enhance subscriber retention.
Industry experts view the Sports Pass as a strategic move to consolidate sports audio offerings under one subscription, potentially increasing listener time on the platform. Sports media analyst Lee Berke noted that providing all major sports coverage within a single service discourages listeners from seeking content elsewhere and supports ongoing subscriber engagement throughout the year.
SiriusXM offers other subscription tiers as well, including an All Music tier priced at $11.99 per month and an All Access tier at $25.99 monthly, which combines music, sports, and news programming. The company, headquartered in New York, boasts around 255 million listeners and 33 million subscribers across North America. It also owns the Pandora streaming service, acquired in 2019 for $3.5 billion.
Beyond sports, SiriusXM remains known for its curated music channels and popular talk shows hosted by well-known personalities, such as Howard Stern and Andy Cohen. Witz highlighted how new channels, live events, and creator collaborations are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to shape the future of audio entertainment.
