Malaysian beach volleyball players and sisters Rachael Goh, 18, and Cadence Goh, 16, concluded their debut appearance at the 2026 Asian Games after exiting at the group stage. The siblings faced a challenging campaign at the Hekinan Ryokuchi Beach Court in Aichi, Japan, ending their competition on 25 September.

In their final group match, the Goh sisters fell to Thailand’s Taravadee Naraphornrapat and Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee in straight sets, 8-21 and 7-21. The Thai team, reigning gold medallists from the Asian Beach Games, topped Group D after also securing a straight-sets victory over South Korea.

Earlier in the tournament, Malaysia suffered a tightly contested three-set loss to South Korea, 23-21, 15-21, 16-18. This marked South Korea’s first progression to the knockout stage in beach volleyball at the Asian Games, with only the top two teams from each group advancing to the last 16.

Reflecting on their performance, Rachael Goh expressed a mix of disappointment and determination. “We tried our best, but luck just wasn’t on our side. We will learn from our mistakes and keep working hard,” she said. The sisters entered the Asian Games shortly after winning gold at the Malaysia Games (Sukma), viewing the experience as a valuable step in their sporting development.

Despite the early exit, the Goh sisters demonstrated potential and gained important international exposure that could contribute to future successes in their athletic careers.
